She's a Grammy award-winning pop vocalist, a fashion designer and is now making the jump to the big screen in Nine.
In between rehearsals and before her big gig at Dubai Media City on November 14, Fergie, in a freewheeling telephone chat with tabloid! Editor Leisha Petrys, says she is one of those girls who had their dream come true
Fergie is one of those celebrities who isn't content to rest on her laurels, retiring to the relatively cushy lifestyle that is afforded to A-listers.
Although she's conquered the music charts with her first solo album The Dutchess and scooped several Grammys with the Black Eyed Peas, she is now taking on her most challenging film role yet - in the musical Nine.
With a stellar cast that would make even the most venerated thespian feel nervous, including Oscar winners Nicole Kidman, Daniel Day Lewis, Sophia Loren and Dame Judi Dench, Fergie has set about proving her acting chops with great aplomb in the musical which traces the life of fictional film director Guido Contini.
Learning
"The cast is extremely amazing," she exclaims. "I am learning so much just by watching them and being around them. I have a very strong work ethic and I put 110 per cent into everything that I do.
"It's nice because I am watching these other people and they're doing the same. That's how they've got to where they are - because they do put in the work."
Her work ethic is certainly being pushed to the limit with a gruelling schedule that also includes completing the Black Eyed Peas' fifth album, The End (The Energy Never Dies), rehearsals for Nine and a long-distance relationship with fiancé Josh Duhamel, who is currently filming Transformers 2.
When tabloid! spoke to the singer last Wednesday, she had been at London's Metropolis recording studio until 2am.
Fergie is rather matter of fact about the demands on her time. "There have been so many turns in my life where I've tried things and it didn't work out," she says.
"I try and keep a positive attitude and really apply myself to everything that I am doing." When it comes to her relationship, it often means racking up frequent flyer points.
"We try and go visit each other if one's working and the other isn't. Josh has got some time off so he's going to come to London and come see me."
Transformation
For the pop sensation, the movie signals a return to her childhood. Discovered at the age of nine, Fergie - or Stacy Ann, as she was known then - was a regular on the talent TV series Kids Incorporated.
"I had always performed theatre songs like Annie and stuff like that when I was a little girl, and learned to sing," she explains. "I've come full circle now."
The singer is taking the transformation for her role as sensual Saraghina seriously, with coaching lessons to ensure an authentic Italian accent and plans to dye her golden locks dark brown.
"For me, I love getting into character. It's nice to have something different and that keeps my creativity at a very high level. I am always excited by the new." At the moment that excitement is also for a new, curvaceous figure.
"She's very robust, my character," she laughs. "I am actually putting on weight!" Abandoning her usually stringent gym regime, Fergie affirms she now developed a taste for English culinary favourites including fish and chips and curry.
"I've been eating everything in sight and it's not something in my usual regime so I've been enjoying it… although I do feel a bit like a glutton," she says before adding: "I love Harrods on the weekend because they serve their famous lasagna and they have this Italian singer who performs while you're eating so there's this wonderful vibe."
Her expanding waistline has meant her onstage costumes for her show - The Dutchess - have become a little snug, but she believes her fans will be forgiving. "My costumes are definitely tighter. It's okay, if I look a few pounds heavier people know it's for the film."
She says her energetic show will quickly whip her back in shape and warns she's expecting a similarly lively audience when she performs in Dubai. "I want people to come and not sit in their chairs the entire time," she says.
"I want people standing up and dancing." Concertgoers can expect the same raw spontaneity of a Black Eyed Peas concert, as well as Fergie's autobiographical hits such as Big Girls Don't Cry and Glamorous. "I definitely bare my soul into my music. It's an honest feeling and everyone has their vulnerable moments so I am not scared to show those. It's human."
Fashion collaboration
Next month's concert marks Fergie's second visit to Dubai - she performed here with the Black Eyed Peas in 2005. Since then, rumours about the singer have circulated around the city - from the possibility of recording an album in a Dubai studio to a possible fashion collaboration with The World's Isla Moda. While she is quick to dispel the first rumour, the second is something she's willing to entertain.
"I am not completely aware of this fashion line… maybe my manager has been talking to people? I would love for them [Isla Moda] to come to the show and we would love to come meet with them."
Fashion is something that's intrinsic for Fergie. Known for lending glamour to street style, she's already designed handbags for Kipling and developed two lines for Brown Shoes.
Add to that her spokesmodel duties for Calvin Klein and it's just as well the 33-year-old is adept at juggling so many roles. Fergie is the first to recognise her good fortune. "I am one of those girls who actually had their dream come true -and it's wonderful."

Quotable quotes:
On the US presidential election: "I went to the US Democratic convention and got to see will.i.am perform live on stage. It was such an amazing energy at this convention, I can't really describe it. It just felt magical.
" A lot of people are very passionate about the election because of the things that have been going on - the war on terror, our recession, gas prices going up. People are really wanting to make a change."
On being a M.A.C Viva Glam ambassador: "M.A.C really do the work and they really find groups that are pro-active in Aids awareness and Aids prevention. My whole campaign is directed towards youth and the younger crowd. You know that 50 per cent of new infections are in people aged between 15 and 24."
On the new Black Eyed Peas album: "We're always pushing towards the future. I can't really compare it [the album] to anything that's out right now. It's completely inspiring just like all of our albums have been – we're thrilled with the outcome."
On acting with Daniel Day Lewis: "I don't even have to say one word about him. He's just, you know, one of the greatest actors of our time."
Big girls do cry...
Fergie shares her last tear: "It was last week when I went to my grandmother's funeral. I sang Amazing Grace and gave a speech which I could barely get through. She [Grandma Lynn] was a singer when she was a little girl. She was actually supposed to be the next Shirley Temple and then came down with rheumatic fever. I always wanted to carry on her legacy."
Did you know?
Fergie was born Stacy Ann Ferguson in California on March 27, 1975.
She was the voice of Sally in the cartoon The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show and for two subsequent Snoopy TV specials.
Fergie got her big break as a performing on Kids Incorporated during the mid to late ‘80s – the show's alumnus also includes Jennifer Love Hewitt and Martika.
She joined the Black Eyed Peas in 2003. It was after their first album together was released - Elephunk - that the band found mainstream success.
She has appeared in several movies including the Poseidon Adventure (2006) and Grindhouse (2007).
Fergie is voted one of the best dressed women in the US - because her clothes are so dated. The singer - who was named in People magazine's coveted 10 Best Dressed Stars list - has two wardrobes full of clothes dating back years. She says, "I don't like to throw anything away."
